The Church in Jerusalem. Pt 2.
.
After the cold and apparently tense atmosphere of the Holy Sepulchure, my faith in the church was warmly rekindled when I stumbled upon this group of singing worshippers one night.
This eclectic group of mostly Asians had set up their band equipment in the middle of the busy Jaffa Street in West Jerusalem, and were quite simply making lots of joyful noise, singing their hearts out and inviting passers-by to come and worship God with them. I couldn't resist a slightly out-of-tune yodel into the microphone, and shared a profound moment of ecstasy with these beautiful, shining souls.
It was a refreshing perspective shift for me, of what original church was in Biblical times, and what it is still meant to be: not about buildings (beautiful as they are) but about people: passionate, imperfect, caring people, who hail from all corners of our diverse planet, and may not sing or speak the same languages, but beat with one heart. ❤
