Composed of photos I took and edited myself last summer, whilst floating through the chaos and peace of life in Kolkata and beyond. These are fragments of several stories weaved into one little ecstasy.
1. The Tata van which transports Mother Teresa’s sisters around Kolkata.
2. A dome perched atop Mother Teresa’s ‘Nirmal Hriday Home for the Dying Destitutes’, which cares for society’s most vulnerable women. I worked here for some time, with some of the most beautiful women I have ever met. This building, located next to the local Kali temple, was donated to Mother Teresa by the Mandir’s priest, who was fond of her work.
3. India’s bovine beauties, a gentle presence on busy roads.
4. One of the hundreds of merchants at Kolkata’s Mallick Ghat flower market carries a bounty of jasmines and marigolds on his head.
5. A priest at Howrah’s Ganga Aarti ceremony on the banks of the Hooghly River, a tributary of the Ganges.
6. My hand, and a much needed boost of corn roasted on charcoal.
7. My hand, treasuring one of Delhi’s most famous jalebis.
I’ve posted two edits because I couldn’t choose a favourite, accompanied with a track by the incredible Midival Punditz.
