Le mur des je t’aime, Paris.

How do you say ‘I love you’ in your language?

If ever in doubt, take a stroll to this marvellous vertical blue slab in Paris, nestled in Montmartre’s Jehan Rictus gardens. The Wall of Love opened at the turn of the new millennium, a romantic mosaic consisting of 612 enamelled lava tiles, illuminated by the words ‘I love you’, affectionately scrawled 311 times in 250 languages, to name a few, French, Hindi, Arabic, Hebrew, Navajo, Inuit and Bambara. Red geometric shapes also splash the wall, symbolizing the segments of a broken heart which create a full heart when gathered together. That’s a lot of segments, a lot of numbers, and a whole lot of love. It certainly makes for a rather pleasing backdrop to any portrait.
