Like every country I suppose, Italy carries a unique spirit, a sense of something different, charming, distinctly beautiful and creative. It's something like the 'dolce vita' but its also more ancient and engrained in the culture here, in every mouthful of tomato bliss, every peeling wall and expressive wave of the hand (I speak with my hands myself, so it was reassuring to find a country full of like-minded people).
I don't think I can quite put Italy into words, so here are a few first impressions from Naples and Rome, which I hope can convey something of what I have felt here in these cities.
