'Ich bin ein Berliner'.

Portraits of B+W Berliners, (featuring two Brits at the end).

The infamous words 'Ich bin ein Berliner' were uttered by John F Kennedy in 1963 whilst on a visit to West Berlin. In the spirit of solidarity with the German people, this translates to 'I am a citizen of Berlin'.

A Berliner also happens to refer to a jam/ jelly (for my dear Americans) doughnut. So this speech is firstly renowned for its allusions to freedom and democracy, but also its unintentional association with a deep fried delicacy.
