Faces and conversation snippets from the bazaar of Antalya…

…“Hey, yes, Shakira come see my shop!”

We stumble in, half defeated by the heavy heat and the relentless pursuing of shop sellers. We have accepted that most people here will call us Shakira, Rihanna, sometimes the odd Lady Gaga.

“Wow, your eyes, original colour?”

I laugh, with the last remaining ounce of energy I have to entertain a flirtatious business conversation. “Haha, yes, my eyes are original, no lenses.”

My travelling companion busies herself trying on uncomfortable fake Birkenstocks.

The seller is pushy. “Hmm, maybe, you can take my contact, we can have a good time tonight…”

He leans in, “you can come upstairs, and I can show you paradise.”

I snort a laugh. “What? What is upstairs?”

He looks a little sheepish and replies “well, shoes, and bags.” His hand proudly points out the display of counterfeit Louis Vuitton handbags and Nike sneakers.

Somehow that’s not what I was expecting. Anyway, we politely decline and walk on, before my friend gets blisters from the fake Birks’, and before I get more than I bargain for and am whisked away to ‘paradise’…
