Dog days.
Forget Byzantines, Romans and Ottomans. The real rulers of the Istanbul streets are its thousands of canine inhabitants. Fur, claw and jaw roam from Sultanahment and Fatih, Karaköy to Üsküdar and beyond.
Most were friendly, albeit a bit nosy.
The three pictured above had colonised a children's play area, and were apparently deeply offended when I took one step too far into their territory to snap a photo.
I've never ran so fast in my life.
A dude smoking on a bench observed passively, (or was it smuggly?) as I was chased by three massive, aggressive barking hounds.
Phew, I narrowly escaped a mauled face and probably a bout of rabies, and came away with a photo that, in my humble opinion, was well worth getting chased for.
