Desert Pilgrims #2

A father-daughter excursion into the Judean desert. A little way into this breathtaking canyon, we wandered down different paths, and each spent some time with our cosmic father. I had the desert to myself, apart from a few nesting birds, and it was pretty surreal to pray here, in this wilderness where humans have met with God for thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of years. Where nomads and vagabonds, priests and kings, prophets and warriors have communed with the ultimate creative entity, the most ancient deity, Yahweh, Elohim, El Elyon. Column of fire and cloud of smoke. Voice on the mountain...

Jesus himself spent forty days fasting and praying in this very desert. I can't say I matched that, but I certainly had a special and moving afternoon praying, singing, worshipping and playing around with a stick and a lighter.
