Antalyan encounters early in the morning...

More memories from the Turkish riviera..

About 3 am, strolling along the waterfront street of Antalya, Türkiye, we come across a most peculiar sight.

A small man, sporting a cap and scraggly beard, sits in his wheelchair. He is contentedly crocheting his own DIY macrame, which he has attached to some railings on a bridge. Turning around to greet us, smiling radiantly, he wears an expression suggesting he’s been expecting us. I blink, dazed by a day of sun and dance, and the ever present heat of the Anatolian night. Apparently it’s arts and crafts hour here.

I didn’t get a picture with him, it seems right to let this memory linger and slowly warp in my mind’s eye. I’m not sure if it even happened, perhaps a heat-induced hallucination?

Below: a local Antalyan musician, who blessed us with an enchanting melody and even more enchanting smile.
